Lithium Hydroxide

Lithium hydroxide is a key component in the production of high-temperature lubricants and greases.  It is estimated to make up 70 to 75% of the grease sold worldwide. Lithium hydroxide is used to form a lithium salt in grease, which acts as a thickener for the lubricating oil. Although they can be more expensive to manufacture than other grease types, the increased cost is offset by improved performance. Lithium greases:

  • exhibit excellent adhesion to metal.
  • are non-corrosive.
  • do not break down under heavy loads.
  • have excellent heat resistance.  It is capable of withstanding very high temperatures and has a drip temperature of approximately 200° Celsius.
  • demonstrate better water resistance compared to traditional sodium based greases.
