Octinoxate is used as an active ingredient in sunscreens and cosmetics by absorbing UVB rays. The material is usually combined with other ingredients to provide full UV and skin protection. In products other than sunscreens, it is used as a UV filter to protect the products from degrading when exposed to the sun. Octinoxate is also known as octyl-methoxycinnamate.
