Borato de zinc

El borato de zinc es un retardante de llama no halogenado. El borato de zinc es útil como retardante de llama en el polietileno y el PVC. El boro actúa como un retardante de llama al formar trihaluros, que son ácidos de Lewis eficaces. Los trihaluros de boro promueven la reticulación, lo que minimiza la formación de gases inflamables a partir del polímero. Además del hidrato, el borato de zinc también se puede ofrecer como el metaborato.
