El cloruro de benzalconio es un compuesto cuaternario de amonio. Es una mezcla de alquil metil bencil cloruros de amonio.

Sus tres áreas principales de uso son como un biocida, un tensioactivo catiónico y un agente de transferencia de fase.

El cloruro de benzalconio se utiliza en suavizantes de tela, cosméticos, champús, acondicionadores y lociones corporales.
