Depending on concentration, it has both bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties. Chlorhexidine kills by disrupting the cell membrane. Chlorhexidine acetate is used as a general topical antiseptic used for the cleaning and disinfecting of wounds and the antiseptic treatment of burns. It is employed in disinfectants, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products.
