EDTA-2Na (disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, disodium EDTA) is incorporated in products to chelate and sequester metal ions. In personal care products the incorporation of EDTA increases the shelf life and enhances foaming properties. EDTA can be used in shampoo, dyes, lotion, gel, cosmetics and other cleaning products. When comparing EDTA-2Na versus EDTA -4Na; EDTA-2Na has a pH lower than 7 whereas EDTA-4Na has a pH higher than 7.
