Vitamin K is a group of similar fat-soluble molecules, the most common being K1 and K2. Vitamin K2 has two common versions; K2-4 or K2-7. Vitamin K2-7 is also known as Menaquinone mk-7 and is a component of dietary supplements. In general vitamin K has many health benefits. Mk-7 Vitamin K2 benefits include aid in osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, inflammation, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and peripheral neuropathy. Compared to vitamin K1 (phylloquinone), Vitamin K2 mk 7 is absorbed more readily and is more bioavailable. Vitamin K1 is often found in plant-based food, however Vitamin K2 (menaquinones) are often found in animal-based foods. Specifically, Menaquinone-7 is primarily synthesized by bacteria.
