Caprylic acid is otherwise known as octanoic acid. It is a medium-chain fatty acid with potent antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.

It is used to manufacture synthetic lubricants, hydraulic fluids and refrigerant lubricant. This product also acts as a corrosion and rust inhibitor in antifreeze.

Caprylic acid is used in metalworking fluids as a solubilizer for mineral oils.

In cosmetics, caprylic acid can be used as a cleansing agent, emulsifying agent, masking agent, perfuming agent, thickening agent and surfactant.
